A young artist based in Houston, TX, Luke Arnold engages with audiences and students by presenting culturally significant musical works with personal warmth and intellect.
Music should enrich our lives – expressing personal meaning and the diverse cultures and forces that shape our world.
To be an artist in the United States in the 21st century is to be a member of the most diverse and information-rich society in the history of the world – music-making should reflect this fact. Originally trained in jazz and improvisation, Luke later fell in love with the classical tradition, and relishes in the opportunity to perform and teach the diverse musical influences that contribute to our culture.
Luke makes a point of presenting works that combine disparate traditions: his debut orchestral soloist performance was Frederick Delius’ piano concerto, which combines influences from Norwegian, West African, and British music to create an exciting new soundworld. A recent concert project paired lamentation pieces by French modernist Olivier Messiaen with those by Arkansas composer Florence Price.
Personalized Study
Luke welcomes the chance to teach students with a variety of goals, strengths, and interests – from age 4 to 74, beginners through undergraduate students, and across genres, each student’s needs guide the course of one-on-one study.
Whether you’ve never touched a keyboard, want to learn to write your own songs, need to refresh skills from years past, or simply don’t know, Luke welcomes the opportunity to help you build the skills needed for lifelong music-making: technique, music theory, ear training, and an understanding of musical styles and cultures.
